Questions
What people ask before and after their first dub. Each answer says how DubForge works today.
Dubbing
Which languages can I dub into?
Each language pair opens only after it passes our listening tests. Your account lists the pairs open today.
Whose voice does the dub use?
The voice of each person speaking in your video. DubForge takes it from the file you upload: there is no voice to record or train first.
What if more than one person speaks?
Say how many voices the video has when you create the project: one, two, three or more, or not sure. Each voice is dubbed in its own voice and speaks when it spoke.
Does it sync the lips?
Not yet. DubForge is built for lessons, tutorials and screen recordings, where the voice has to follow the click. Lip sync comes after launch.
Which files can I upload?
MP4, MOV, M4A or WAV. The file is checked before anything is charged: its real type, its length and its size.
How long can a video be?
Up to 20 minutes on Creator, an hour on Pro and 3 hours on Studio.
The editor
Can I fix a sentence?
Yes. Edit the transcript or the translation and regenerate that whole segment. The new version replaces the old one in place, in the same voice.
What does a fix cost?
Regenerating is free up to a quarter of the video's length. After that, a fix uses the length of the segment, counted by the second.
Are earlier versions kept?
Yes. Each regeneration keeps the one before it, and going back to an earlier version costs nothing.
What are the alerts in the editor?
The engine flags a pause that came out shorter than yours, or a line that runs faster than the original, so you know where to listen first.
Minutes and plans
How are minutes counted?
By the second: a dub uses its own length, rounded up to the next second. Each target language is its own dub, so a 10-minute video in two languages uses 20 minutes.
When is my balance charged?
You see what a dub will use before you start it. The minutes are held while it runs and charged when it is done.
What if a dub fails?
The minutes held for it come back to your balance on their own.
Do unused minutes expire?
They carry over to the next month, up to twice your monthly amount.
What is in the free trial?
30 seconds of dubbing, once, for an account with a confirmed e-mail. No card is needed. The trial dub carries a watermark and is not for commercial use.
Can I buy more minutes?
Yes, on any paid plan: US$1.60 a minute on Creator, US$1.40 on Pro and US$1.20 on Studio.
Is there a yearly price?
Yes. Paying for a year, two months are free.
Files and downloads
What do I download?
The dubbed video (MP4), the full mix (WAV or MP3), the voice alone and the music and background alone (WAV), and subtitles in the original and in the dubbed language (SRT and VTT). Subtitles in any other language use 0.1 minute per minute of video.
Who can see my files?
Only you. Files go straight to private storage and download links expire after five minutes. The DubForge team reaches a project only through its admin tools, and each look is recorded with its reason.
How long are projects kept?
30 days on Creator and 90 days on Pro and Studio. Download what you want to keep.
Can I delete a project?
Yes, at the end of the project's page, when no dub is running. It leaves your list at once.
Your account
How do I sign in?
With Google, with an e-mail and a password, or with a sign-in link sent to your e-mail.
Can I turn on two-step sign-in?
Yes. In Security, add a code from an authenticator app. After that, signing in asks for the code too.
Voices and rules
Whose voice can I dub?
Your own, or voices whose owners gave you written permission. Each project asks you to confirm it for that exact file. Public figures are not allowed.
Can I paste a YouTube link?
No. Upload the file itself: a link does not show that you hold the rights to the video.
Is the result marked as AI?
Yes. Exported audio carries AI marking, and our terms ask you to tell your audience that the dub was made with AI.
Is my voice used to improve DubForge?
Your own voice may be used to improve DubForge's transcription, translation and dubbing. It is never sold and never used to build a model of one specific person, and it leaves the archive if you close your account. In the EU, EEA and UK you can object.
What is not allowed?
Impersonating anyone, fraud and scams, sexual content with a real person's voice, election disinformation, harassment, voices of public figures or other people without permission, and copyright infringement. The full rules are in the Acceptable Use Policy.
Try it on your own video
